Description
The Starry Night is a Post-Impressionist oil-on-canvas painting by Dutch artist Vincent van Gogh, created in June 1889. It depicts the view from his asylum window in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, though with an imaginary village and a prominent, symbolic cypress tree. The swirling, energetic brushstrokes and vibrant use of colors like blue, yellow, and orange, contrast with the tranquil village, conveying a sense of emotion, memory, and the divine. The painting is considered a masterpiece, despite Van Gogh's own belief that it was a failure, and is now held at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City.
